I read Law and German Law at Corpus Christi College, Oxford and the University of Bonn. I went back to Oxford to study theology and train for the priesthood. Prior to ordination I returned to Bonn and worked on a European Union project to process and define a culture of remembrance with regards to the Holocaust. Before being elected Chaplain I was a priest in three rural parishes in Buckinghamshire.
Chaplain
As Chaplain I have overall responsibility of the Chapel and oversee the religious life of the College.
Welfare
I work alongside and support the other welfare officers in providing support, guidance, and help to all members of College. This is irrespective of any religious affiliation.
Research
My current research explores the religious life of Edward VII, and whether the monarchy and church relied on each other to secure their positions. This is part of a wider interest in how liturgy reflects identity, and in particular how the hierarchy of the Church of England responded to the changes of the Oxford Movement in the early twentieth century.
Reformation 500
Working with the idea of religious identities, as well as a passion for engagement with objects and sources, I am part of a nationwide group leading commemorations of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation [as defined by Luther’s nailing (?) of the 95 thesis in Wittenberg]. This includes lectures and sermons, as well as projects to digitalise and transcribe Reformation era texts.
Responsibilities in the wider Church
I am a Vocations Advisor for people discerning how to respond to a vocation to a life in service of God and Church. I am keen to strengthen links with European Churches, especially the Old Catholics and Protestant Church in Germany.
I also teach Church History and Doctrine.
